STATEMENT

During my undergrad group art critiques, I listened as my fellow students spend untold time explaining the meaning of a new piece they had just created.  Quite often their work did not communicate what their words told me.  Because of this, I’ve never liked telling someone what my work is about.  That’s why I created it.  That’s why I invite you to look at it.

Instead, I want to share some of my ideas about art.

All too often we ignore line and shape and are seduced by color.

Nature has endlessly repeating patterns that are there for us to marvel at and learn from.

Some artists feel more comfortable with one medium.  I select the medium because it best communicates what I want to say.

An image can be stronger than words when it comes to social issues.

Some work speaks to us in a way that we can’t always articulate.  And some doesn’t.  But it’s important either way to sit with it and quietly listen.
